Mother and Daughter, Star Wars style

Anakin-Padme-Luke-and-Leia-star-wars-35365242-334-500I may be the only person who liked Padmé Amidala in the prequel Star Wars movies.  Sure, I know that George Lucas completely bumbled the dialogue for Natalie Portman, and he had to make a convincing female heroine who is only known as the person who gives birth to the Skywalker twins.  I get it.  There are a lot of hangups, but I don’t care, I have always liked her.  (Especially her deleted scenes in both AOTC and ROTS).  Princess Leia is one of my favorite female characters of all time and is now technically my favorite Disney princess!  (I was looking for her at Disneyland last month, but I’m sure she will make an appearance once the new Star Wars section is opened.)  Since the prequels came out, I have loved looking at all the beautiful costumes done by Trisha Biggar (ok, obsessed is more like it).  In fact, Dressing A Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars is my favorite coffee table book of all time.  (Go buy it here!)  For years, it was unavailable, and I had to go to my library to check it out.  Of course, that copy was frayed and falling apart, so you can imagine my elation once the book got on Amazon years later.  Needless to say, I have loved stitching Padmé and Leia in random projects I have done over the years.

A few weeks ago, my friend, Brandon, sent me an awesome video link called “Star Wars Poetry.”  It is beautiful, and it inspired me to make a Padmé Amidala and Leia Organa cross stitch to juxtapose important parts of the movies with these two integral female characters.  Since I love ALL of Padmé’s costumes, I had to delete and edit out a lot of them to try to get them to match up.  Notice, I did not include Padmé’s famous battle on Geonosis outfit because I couldn’t omit the lake and meadow dresses (which are two of my favorite female costumes of all time).  It was a bit difficult getting Leia’s costumes just right since she is always wearing white.

I hope you enjoy this new pattern!
